1774-1840 Caspar David Friedrich Locations German painter, studied art at Copenhagen, and in 1798 settled in Dresden. Friedrich painted chiefly landscapes and seascapes, with and without figures, architectural pictures, including a few of Dresden, and some religious subjects. Religious feeling and symbolism permeate his œuvre, of which the seascape with figures, Die Lebensstufen, is a characteristic example. He possessed considerable power to convey mood in landscape. Almost forgotten in the 19th c. and early 20th c., interest in his work increased considerably in the mid-20th c. He is hardly represented in Britain, but an exhibition of 112 of his pictures at the Tate Gallery in 1972 attracted much attention. F. G. Kersting was a friend of Friedrich. ottilia adelborgEva Ottilia Adelborg, född 6 december 1855 i Karlskrona, död 19 mars 1936, var en svensk akvarellkonstnär. Hon var dotter till kommendörkapten Bror Jacob Adelborg och hans hustru Hedvig Catharina af Uhr samt syster till Gertrud Adelborg.
Adelborg var "bilderbokskonstnärinna" enligt äldre benämning. Hon benämns idag barnboksillustratör, men illustrerade även böcker för vuxna, komponerade tapetmönster och skrev böcker och kan därför benämnas författare. Bosatt i Gagnef i Dalarna från juli 1903, då hon startade en skola för knyppling. Museum över hennes liv och verksamhet finns i Gagnefs gamla prostgård. Känd för bland annat affischen "Prinsarnes blomsteralfabet" (1892). Det litterära Ottilia Adelborg-priset instiftades år 2000 av Gagnefs kommun.

English painter and printmaker. He was apprenticed on 4 February 1817 to George Cooke. His early training in engraving influenced his future career; his ability to draw a fine line, lay aquatint washes and hand-colour prints was an important factor in the creation of his particularly lucid style of watercolour landscapes and townscapes. At this time Cooke was engraving volumes of picturesque views by Turner and James Hakewell (1778-1843) as well as his own view of the Thames (1822);
NAIVEU, MatthijsDutch painter (1647-1726)
Dutch painter. He was the son of a wine merchant from Rotterdam and began his training with Abraham Toorenvliet (c. 1620-92), a glass painter and drawing master in Leiden. From 1667 to 1669 Naiveu was apprenticed to the Leiden 'Fine' painter Gerrit Dou, who received 100 guilders a year (an exceptionally high sum) for instructing Naiveu. In 1671 Naiveu entered the Leiden Guild of St Luke, of which he became the head in 1677 and again in 1678, the year in which he moved to Amsterdam, where he was later appointed hop inspector. This work did not prevent him producing a considerable number of paintings; the earliest known work by Naiveu is dated 1668, the latest 1721.
